چکیده

As a promising alternative technology to the present electric energy storage utilizing Li-ion batteries, Na-ion batteries (NIBs) have attracted increasing interest for emerging large-scale applications due to the huge abundance and low cost of sodium [1]. Iron fluoride (FeF2) is a lithium-conversion cathode capable of accommodating multiple-charge transfer per formula unit, and the comprehensive evolution during its lithiation process has been experimentally examined [2, 3]. It is of great importance to verify whether FeF2 can be adapted to NIBs as well as to understand the underlying electrochemical mechanism of the sodiation reactions.

In situ transmission electron microscopy study of electrochemical sodiation and potassiation of carbon nanofibers.

Carbonaceous materials have great potential for applications as anodes of alkali-metal ion batteries, such as Na-ion batteries and K-ion batteries (NIB and KIBs). We conduct an in situ study of the electrochemically driven sodiation and potassiation of individual carbon nanofibers (CNFs) by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The CNFs are hollow and consist of a bilayer wall with an outer l...

Probing three-dimensional sodiation–desodiation equilibrium in sodium-ion batteries by in situ hard X-ray nanotomography

Materials degradation-the main limiting factor for widespread application of alloy anodes in battery systems-was assumed to be worse in sodium alloys than in lithium analogues due to the larger sodium-ion radius. Efforts to relieve this problem are reliant on the understanding of electrochemical and structural degradation. Here we track three-dimensional structural and chemical evolution of tin...

Highly durable organic electrode for sodium-ion batteries via a stabilized α-C radical intermediate

It is a challenge to prepare organic electrodes for sodium-ion batteries with long cycle life and high capacity. The highly reactive radical intermediates generated during the sodiation/desodiation process could be a critical issue because of undesired side reactions. Here we present durable electrodes with a stabilized α-C radical intermediate. Through the resonance effect as well as steric ef...
